The aim of this course is to provide basic knowledge about periodic maintenance and inspection of lifting equipment, enabling seafarers to perform according to regional requirements. The course provides knowledge about who is responsible for performing periodic maintenance and inspection and what kind of checks and maintenance that must be done. Also it includes industry standard terminology and familiarization with hazards related to periodic maintenance and inspection.

  • Understand why standards are important in order to perform correct maintenance and inspection
  • Identify the main inspections and periodic maintenance that can be carried out by the person using the lifting equipment
  • Be able to identify the standards that apply to lifting equipment in the specific region of operation
  • Identify the different roles and responsibilities of persons involved in the periodic maintenance and inspection
